Presence of Human Pap¡lloma virus Type 16 Genome in Bladder Carcinoma in Situ of a Patient with Mild Immunodeficiency
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using blot hybridization, we analyzed 10 bladder tumors (1 transitional cell carcinoma in situ, 1 adenocarcinoma, and 8 papillary tumors) for the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA. We detected HPV 16 DNA in a transitional cell carcinoma in situ, whereas no HPV DNA was found in the other bladder tumors. The patient, a 40-year-old female, who harbored HPV 16 DNA in the bladder tumor, had mild immunode ficiency and recently suffered from the bladder tumor, common warts on the right hand, Bowen's disease of the vulva, and severe dysplasia of the vaginal wall. From each of these lesions, we detected the DNA of HPV 16 or an unclassified HPV. HPV DNAs existed in nonintegrated form in all lesions examined. To our knowledge, this is the first case in which a bladder tumor was shown to harbor HPV DNA. However, HPV does not seem to be regularly present in bladder tumor, because we could not detect HPV DNA from the most common bladder tumor, i.e., papillary tumor. Our demonstration of HPV 16 DNA in a transitional cell carci noma in situ of the bladder suggests that HPV may be associated with some of the bladder tumors of this type.

Background and Objective: Cytomegalovirus (CMV), one of the most common opportunistic pathogens in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), can cause the diseases such as encephalitis, pneumonia, and chorioretinitis. This study aimed at molecular studying of CMV infection in individuals infected with the human immunodeficiency virus. Material and Methods: In this study, 50 ven...
متن کاملThe Prevalence of Human Papilloma Virus in Esopha-geal Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Background: Carcinomas of esophagus, mostly squamous cell carcinomas, occur throughout the world. There are a number of suspected genetic or environmental etiologies. Human papilloma virus (HPV) is said to be a major etiology in areas with high incidence of esophageal carcinoma, while it is hardly detectable in low incidence regions. This study was designed to evaluate the prevalence of HPV in ...
متن کاملLymphoepithelial – Like Carcinoma with Papillary Transitional Cell Carcinoma of the Urinary Bladder Associated with Carcinoma in situ Changes of the Urothelium; A Case Report and Review of Literature
Lymphoepithelial - like carcinoma, is rarely recognized in the urinary bladder and less commonly occurs with papillary transitional cell carcinoma i.e. mixed pattern. Also, less uncommon is the occurrence of carcinoma in situ changes in the adjacent urothelium of these tumors. Here, a case of lymphoepithelial – like carcinoma and papillary transitional cell carcinoma associated with carci...

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma, particulary tumors endemic to the Far East, commonly harbors Epstein-Barr virus. The detection of nuclear antigen associated with EBV and viral DNA in NPC cells have revealed that EBV can infect epithelial cells and is associated with transformation. Human papilloma virus is an epitheliotrophic oncogenic virus that has been detected in a variety of head and neck tu...
